As the people of Los Angeles and its surrounding communities begin the long recovery from the region’s devastating fires, 12 professional sports organizations — Angel City FC, the Angels, Chargers, Clippers, Dodgers, Ducks, Galaxy, Kings, LAFC, Lakers, Rams and Sparks — have pledged a combined donation of more than $8 million to support victims in need, as well as those fighting the fires.

At issue is the relationship between Rokit’s global businesses and a handful of now-bankrupt marketing affiliates that entered into tens of millions of dollars’ worth of partnerships across the sports world, with entities like the Rockets, F1’s Williams Racing, and the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders and San Diego Chargers. Rokit claims its defaulted subsidiaries have zero or de minimis assets, and are therefore unable to pay their creditors.
“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire — and there’s absolutely smoke,” the San Antonio Republican said. “Look what happened to the Seattle SuperSonics,” Gonzales said of the now-Oklahoma City Thunder; or the San Diego Chargers or St. Louis Rams, both of which now call Los Angeles home. “No one would ever imagine the Spurs would leave San Antonio, but what if they do?” Gonzales said. “Sometimes when we say it takes an act of Congress, sometimes we have to take that seriously.”

“Everybody was here,” Smiley said. “We had rappers and NFL players. Other NBA players like Draymond Green showed. Quavo from Migos. A couple players from the Rams and Chargers. Everybody came through this weekend. And it was all last-minute, but we made sure we did our jobs.”
Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson: Joel Embiid's tweet didn't impress @bigfendi apparently. He tells @ballysports by phone: "They also used it for the Washington Redskins and the Chargers. When Embiid did it, I said: ‘where’s my NFT?’ This is probably the biggest meme in sports history."

I sat down with Inglewood mayor James T. Butts before this Saturday’s first preseason game at SoFi Stadium between the Rams and Chargers. It will be the first game at SoFi Stadium for both teams in front of a capacity crowd as there were no fans at games last season. Butts said he hopes the Clippers will break ground on their new $1 billion arena by the end of the summer in time for the team to move into their new home in three years. “We hope to have them break ground before the end of August for the venue to be open for the first season in 2024,” Butts said. “The Clippers arena will be done in time for the 2024-25 NBA season.”
The Lakers, Kings, Ducks, Galaxy and Chargers have mandated vaccinations for full-time employees at offices within the United States, according to a statement Wednesday from AEG, the parent company of the Kings and Galaxy and the Staples Center landlord of the Lakers. The requirement would include “limited exceptions as required by law,” the statement said.
Today at the 2021 ESPYs, Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball was named the Best Breakthrough Athlete following his rookie campaign, which also earned him the 2020-21 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year. Alongside Triller’s influencer growth is the sports industry’s increasing interest in the platform. Over the summer, teams like the Los Angeles Chargers, Vegas Golden Knights and New York Mets created accounts on the app. Another notable sports presence on Triller is @NBAMemes, which boasts nearly four million Instagram followers and was recently acquired by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Havas Media has held on to all dollars that had been earmarked for the NBA, said Jeff Gagne, noting that the NBA attracts a younger audience “that is not readily available on television, whereas football is just broad.” One question facing everyone is how sports will compete against each other for ratings when they typically try to avoid conflict. Game 7 of the NBA Finals would be aired on October 12th on ABC, while ESPN airs a Monday Night Football Game featuring the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers. “Inherently, there will be an initial spike and maybe some falloff,” said one agency executive of the potential of viewer fatigue.
The Phoenix Suns' undefeated NBA 2K season simulation campaign came to an end on Friday night with a 102-59 loss to the LA Clippers. Former Arizona Cardinals safety (and avid Phoenix Suns fan) Tony Jefferson controlled his Suns, while Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen took charge of the Clippers.
