As we all know by now, the Grizzlies believed they were sending MarShon Brooks in the deal. The Suns, reportedly, were under the impression that Memphis was sending Dillon Brooks. That was a no-go for the Grizzlies. Now, Wallace had to tell MarShon and Selden that they were actually being retained. “I was like, huh?” MarShon said. “I was confused. This had never happened before.”

And while he admitted things are a little awkward, he’s eager to resume his time as a Memphis Grizzly and move on from the whole ordeal. “Everybody’s just confused, man,” Brooks said. “The emotion isn’t mad. I don’t feel mad. Don’t nobody owe me nothing. Chris Wallace thought he could get it done. Kelly Oubre is a brilliant player. It is what it is. It’s the business side of things.” MarShon noted that he exchanged text messages with Dillon Brooks about the situation. “That’s my guy,” MarShon said.

For MarShon, the next step is helping the Grizzlies, who have lost four of their last five games, get back on track. He’s still grateful that the franchise signed him to a multi-year deal toward the end of last season after he had been out of the league for three years, continuing his career overseas. “I will say this, when guys like a Jimmy Butler or a Kevin Durant go to different teams and want to play where they want to play, you see why,” he said. “It’s a business on both sides. It is what it is. I have to just be ready to play. I have a game. It was a quick turnaround, I don’t really have time to feel bad or feel any type of way. I’m just going out there, I’m just going to compete with my brothers. I love going to war with these guys, that’s what it is. That’s what I’ve been doing. JB was the first person to give me the opportunity coming back from China. I owe him to go hard.”
