Michael Redd: Jason Kidd. Steph Marbury. Allen Iverson. Shoot, Jay Williams. Not comparing DP to any of them, but to say we haven’t had “generational” guard prospects is a hot (and short term memory) take. That said, this 2026 class is looking elite!
“Numerous coaches, Black coaches, called me expressing how they took issue with that podcast taking place. And I think you know enough to know that that’s true. Some of them felt very salty about that,” Smith told Jay Williams. “We certainly are not blaming JJ Redick.”

“My contract is up in three months, man,” Jay Williams said before asking if Patrick Beverley was officially recruiting him. “This is part of the problem. You can never be your f***ing self…I don’t care if you’re Stephen A. Smith, I don’t care if you’re my boy Alan Hahn or Max Kellerman, we can sit up here and do the tit-for-tat, play the innuendos, let me give you a tease, we can do all that. I get how the media industry works and I get how those are cliffhangers in which social media feeds on and articles feed on. It feels like media cannibalizing media right now, and I get how that game is played, but sometimes that game gets boring to me.”
Asked to describe his ideal optimization of a media talent, Williams said, “this,” referring to Beverley’s podcast and the more relaxed nature of podcasts in general. Williams similarly hosted his own interview podcast for NPR, but there hasn’t been a new episode since last December. “What’s the new age Ernie Johnson?” Williams asked. “Business oriented, but can kick it with anybody,” noting he wants to build enterprise with active athletes and “the people who can tell the story from the inside out, as opposed to the outside in.” “How you create an environment in which everybody…can just be themselves authentically and not feel like you have to give a take on something,” Williams continued. “Not everything requires some kind of polarizing point of view.”
The argument for Wembanyama at #1 is easy: we’ve never seen a 7’4” guy with guard skills who can shoot off the dribble. The argument for Miller at #2 is also pretty straightforward: he’s 6’7”, and lengthy wings are irresistible in today’s NBA. Scoot, meanwhile, is either 6’3” (if you believe his Twitter bio) or 6’2” (if you believe the draft experts). Either way, his height, along with questions about his shooting, have some scouts rethinking their rankings. When I ask Jeter how tall Scoot is, he tells me: “He’s 6-monster. The boy can jump. He’s explosive. He’s getting that leadership in him. It’s about how big that heart is. Heart over height. Always.” Jeter sees Henderson’s closest comp as Duke-era Jay Williams, who went first overall before his career was derailed by a motorcycle crash. Jeter also mentions Eric Bledsoe’s name, and I ask if he thinks he can really fill out like the famously muscular guard. “Yes, Scoot is huge. Scoot has abs underneath his armpits,” Jeter says. “He sent me a video the other day on Instagram and a person had abs on their back. I said, ‘That’s you, man!’ We always joke that he puts Muscle Milk in his cereal.”

Jay Williams on Ja Morant: "I do believe the NBA missed the mark on his suspension. I thought he should've been suspended for the rest of the regular season without pay, and his return should have been subject to successful counseling from the NBA."

The two-time NBA champion had visited OTE Arena in April. Getting to know the youngsters and coaches led to the opportunity for a place on the company’s board of directors alongside Carmelo Anthony and Jay Williams. Intending to extend even more of his help to the next generation is the goal. “When I walked through OTE Arena in April and met with the players, I saw up close the life-changing experiences that Overtime Elite is providing them,” Gasol described his experience.
Jay Williams: What’s going to happen with the Miami Heat? Are they going to be able to get a guy like Bradley Beal? Will they get a guy like Donovan Mitchell to be partner with Jimmy Butler? Beverley: Will they trade for Patrick Beverley? Williams: Will they trade for Patrick Beverley? I don’t know. I like that you just said that. Beverley: Yes. Say it. OK, say it. Williams: You said it for me, and I’ll keep saying it from now on. Beverley: It’s not the NBA channel. It’s ESPN. We can say anything we want.
