L. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth), who stood on the portico of the Capitol looking down on Youngkin’s news conference, said afterward that he was correct in his assessment. “I am a roadblock, yes,” Lucas said, adding that she does not believe the proposed arena and its $1.5 billion in public debt are a good deal for taxpayers. Asked if she would be open to a better arena deal, she said, “A better deal would be if they paid for it themselves,” referring to the teams’ owner, Ted Leonsis.
For the fourth year, NBA Star and Portsmouth native Dorian Finney-Smith hosted a turkey drive to give back to his hometown. Finney-Smith and The Finney Family First Foundation provided local families with turkeys and Thanksgiving groceries. On Saturday, Nov. 18, they served 150 families in the Portsmouth, VA area during the turkey drive at Manor High School.

Portsmouth native and Dallas Mavericks NBA player Dorian Finney-Smith is giving back to his community this weekend. The Finney Family First Foundation held its first black-tie Gala Friday night with keynote speaker Mark Cuban, the owner of the Mavericks. During the gala, Finney-Smith tells the Sportswrap, that he wants to help his hometown. “The city of Portsmouth, [where] I’m from, it’s struggling right now with crime. So, I’m trying to give the youth more possibilities to be successful,” said Finney.

Jordan Taylor will play in the Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational that begins Wednesday. The invitational, in its 60th year, features 64 of the nation's top seniors competing in a four-day, 12-game tournament. NBA scouts attend the invitational and assess the talent. Taylor helped lead the Badgers to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance this season.
Kentucky senior Josh Harrellson has withdrawn from the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. The 6-foot-10 forward has been recommended by the UK medical staff to not have any physical activity for a week due to flu-like symptoms. The prestigious Portsmouth Invitational Tournament is the NBA's top pre-draft camp for college seniors. Harrellson was expected to participate in the tournament that runs from April 6-9, 2011 at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Va.

According to Mahlon Parker, who helps run the PIT in Portsmouth, Va., both Butler and Leuer have accepted invitations to the tournament. "They have both filled out their paper work and returned it,'' Parker said. "I expect both of them to be here.'' Butler, a 6-foot-7 guard-forward for Marquette, and Leuer, a 6-10 forward for Wisconsin, are enjoying banner senior seasons. Butler is averaging a team-high 16 points and 6.2 rebounds. He is shooting .498 from the field, including .498 from 3-point range.
