Middleton, a two-time All-Star, and the 21-year-old Nesmith not only hail from Charleston, S.C., but also attended the same high school, Porter-Gaud. Some scouts tag Nesmith as the top 3-point shooter in the draft, but his standing isn’t as a high lottery pick. He was injured in his sophomore season, suffering a stress fracture in his right foot that limited him to 14 games. “We compare him to Khris Middleton,’’ Stackhouse told The Post in an email Sunday. “He’s perfect for the wing spot. He has the size. He has the strength and in addition to being a shooter, he is dedicated to the defensive side as well.”

On Wednesday, Middleton stepped out of his comfort zone and penned an essay for The Players Tribune. He wasn't writing about basketball. Instead, he shared his insights as a native of Charleston, S.C., in the wake of the June 17 attack at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in which nine people were shot and killed during a Bible study. Back in Charleston since the season ended, Middleton was driving through downtown, blocks away from the church, when the shootings happened. His grandmother Juanita Middleton, who has been an active member of the Charleston community for decades, knew four of the victims personally. She introduced Khris to one of them, Cynthia Hurd, in early June when Hurd dropped her nephews off at his summer basketball camp. "I've been thinking a lot about Ms. Hurd and her nephews these days," Middleton wrote.
