Yossi Gozlan: Realistically, the Cavaliers can keep two of Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, & Darius Garland in the long run. This trade would indicate their commitment to Mitchell, who can extend this summer for up to four years, $273 million. FWIW, Harden expires in time for Mitchell’s next deal.

Tim Bontemps: People around the league are watching the Donovan Mitchell situation. He's got one guaranteed year left on his contract. He has not made it out of the second round of the playoffs in his career. And if the Cavs don't make a playoff run this year when they came into the season, coming off winning 64 games and losing in really disappointing fashion… Many people had them ahead of the Knicks, but at worst they were co-favorites with the Knicks to make the finals and instead they've been somewhere from seventh to fifth most of the season. They're fifth right now. They've gotten out of the plan, there's pressure there for the Cavs to make a run this year. And as constituted right now, I don't think Dennis Shroeder… like this trade was fine. I would rather have Keon Ellis than De’Andre Hunter, but this is not going to be enough in my opinion to get the Cavs where they need to go this year to satisfy um the the pressure that's on them. So, is there a move they can make between now and Thursday afternoon that is going to be able to do that? Now, we'll see if something comes up.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Mitchell shared that he doesn’t expect the showdown between the Los Angeles Lakers and Cavaliers to be the last time James takes the floor in his hometown. "I don't think this is his last game (in CLE). I personally don't think this is the end," Mitchell said.

Danny Cunningham: #Cavs beat the Lakers 129-99 in what could be LeBron's final game in Cleveland. Very impressive final three quarters for the Cavs after a shaky start. Donovan Mitchell had 25, Jaylon Tyson had 20 and the Cavs outscored LA 72-44 in the second half. Fifth straight for the Cavs.

When it comes to the tragedies in Minnesota, Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell isn't asking people to choose political sides. He's pleading for all of humanity to look inward to process what's going on in the current climate. “It's violence. Senseless violence,” Mitchell said. “It's one of those things where there's a human element to all of this, right? We were there for the first incident [where an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Good], and then to see it happen again, it's like it's become the norm. It's become something that, quite frankly, I don't feel like any of us in here are like, ‘Man, that's a normal thing.' That shouldn't be. “We are in this bubble as NBA players; we're removed. But by the same token, being there in Minnesota when that happened, it really made you open your eyes 'cause you're there. You feel it. It's 10 minutes away. We were on lockdown in the hotel. You can only feel for the people of Minnesota, feel for the families. It's just not right.”

Danny Cunningham: #Cavs beat the Magic 114-98 thanks in large part to Donovan Mitchell's 45-point outburst. Second win over Orlando in three days and fourth straight win for Cleveland. Cavs have now won 11 of 15 and move to 28-20 on the season.

The Cavs have received offers for swingman De’Andre Hunter — last year’s deadline prize who is in the midst of one of the worst statistical seasons of his career and keeps trying to adapt to a midseason role change. There remains strong interest in free-agent-to-be Dean Wade. Opposing teams have also been wondering if Cleveland has any appetite for breaking up the Core 4 — Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. To this point, Cavs decision-makers have made it clear they aren’t interested in a drastic shake-up. They still think highly of this group and see a pathway back to the top of the wide-open Eastern Conference. They also want to evaluate this roster closer to full strength, believing their prospective rotation — with Garland getting closer to returning from a minor toe injury, the emergence of second-year forward Jaylon Tyson and Max Strus’ eventual comeback from offseason foot surgery — stacks up with anyone in the East.

With a strong relationship off the court, the pairing works seamlessly on it. The two's short-roll connection is a weapon for Kenny Atkinson and the wine and gold, as Mitchell handles the ball while Tyson sets a high screen in the middle area. There's a multitude of options that come from the ball-screen action: Tyson rolls to the right elbow, pops to the opposite wing, or acts as a decoy for Mitchell's next move. “I think obviously we work on it in practice,” Tyson said at a practice at the beginning of this month. “Donovan was kind of putting it in my head earlier in the year, so we worked on it in training camp, and just my ability to be able to make quick reads out of it, I could pass out of it. Also, working on that little floater. I feel like that's helped me, but just seeing different reads is helping me grow in that. “Obviously, I'm still young, trying to figure that part out. But the more I see different coverages, how they guard, the more I just get more confident.”

NBA Communications: Other nominees… West: Saddiq Bey (NOP), Kevin Durant (HOU), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC), James Harden (LAC) and Naji Marshall (DAL) East: Bam Adebayo and Norman Powell (MIA), Jalen Duren (DET), Jalen Johnson (ATL), Donovan Mitchell (CLE) and Coby White (CHI)

Danny Cunningham: #Cavs beat the Magic 119-105 to win their third straight game. Donovan Mitchell finished with 36 points, Jaylon Tyson had 17 and the Cavs got strong efforts from a couple of deep reserves. A big win against a team the Cavs could be fighting with for playoff seeding.

Danny Cunningham: #Cavs beat the Kings 123-118 in a game that probably shouldn't have been as close as it was, but still counts as a win. Evan Mobley was outstanding. He finished with 29 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 blocks. Donovan Mitchell had 33 points, 5 boards and 8 assists. Cavs move to 26-20 on the season. They're back in action tomorrow in Orlando.
