Devin Carter's days with the franchise appear to be dwindling. He might have been the 13th overall pick out of Providence as recently as the 2024 NBA Draft, but the front office leaders who made that selection (Monte McNair and Wes Wilcox) are no longer in Sacramento. Sources say Carter's name has already featured in trade chatter throughout this offseason. Yet it could take awhile for an actual trade to materialize there.

Tennessee wing Dalton Knecht might go in the top 10. Providence guard Devin Carter just tagged an impressive junior year with some strong testing at the draft combine. Purdue center Zach Edey is one of the most interesting players in the draft and projected to be a fringe lottery pick. Marquette point guard Tyler Kolek, Colorado forward Tristan da Silva and Creighton wing Baylor Scheierman are all projected first-round picks who could land higher than expected on draft night. That will again bring an important question to the forefront as teams make their decisions: Does age matter in the draft?

Scattered about the U.S. are pockets of Liberian refugees with ties to the home country. Among them are the family of Nets guard David Duke Jr. whose parents escaped and settled in Providence. And this past weekend, Duke’s foundation opened a dining hall for children in a suburb of the capital Monrovia.

For Duke Jr., feeding the hungry is something he has done since his days in his hometown of Providence where he played four years for the Friars, both while a student and as a Nets player. As a student, he raised $14,000 for Crossroads Rhode Island, the leader of homeless services in the state of Rhode Island. In recent years, he and his foundation have run programs that combine basketball clinics, youth games with free food, back-to-school giveaways.

Adrian Wojnarowski: The Portland Trail Blazers are signing G League forward Justin Minaya of Mexico City for the rest of the season, sources tell ESPN. Minaya played his college basketball at Providence.

Matt St. Jean: According to his Instagram, Providence's Justin Minaya will declare for the NBA Draft and will not be using his remaining year of eligibility.
It was announced today (April 2) that Providence College junior guard David Duke (Providence, R.I.) has hired an agent and he will enter the 2021 NBA Draft. "We are appreciative of everything that David has done for our men's basketball program," Providence College Head Coach Ed Cooley said. "David has always had a goal of playing in the NBA.”
Jeff Goodman: Providence’s Alpha Diallo is expected to withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to school, his agent Javon Phillips told me. With Diallo and progress of young guys, I’d be shocked if Friars aren’t back in NCAA Tourney next season.

Scott Agness: Ben Bentil, rookie out of Providence, signs a 10-day contract with the Mavs. Pacers gave him $50K in guarantees as he played for Mad Ants.
The tide became more treacherous in June when Thibodeau's new regime used the No. 5 pick to select another point guard, Kris Dunn of Providence. Not only does Dunn play the same position, but he's the opposite of Jones. At 6'4", 210 pounds, he has at least two inches and almost 20 pounds on his smaller counterpart. "I really didn't know what to think," Jones said. "I just decided to look at it as just another reason why I had to prove myself."
