With Wagner out, Mosley employed an eight-man rotation. Jamal Cain, who started in Wagner’s place, was a non-factor on offense. The only bench player who made a clearly positive impact was third-year guard Anthony Black, who scored 19 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists. Making up for Wagner’s absence Friday in Game 6 will be a difficult task, even at home. Under Mosley, the Magic have compiled an 8-1 postseason record at Kia Center, and the Magic will need every ounce of that home-court advantage they can muster. “It’s a must-win,” center Wendell Carter Jr. said. “Just how desperate they were (tonight), we should be just as desperate, if not more. We don’t want to come back here.”

Jason Beede: The #Magic list Jonathan Isaac (left knee sprain) as Questionable for Sunday’s Game 1 at Detroit. Wendell Carter Jr. still listed with a face mask despite taking it off at one point Friday night vs. Charlotte.

Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson: Speaking of Bam when you’re at the top of the key making plays for Paolo and the rest of the guys is there a specific player you modeled that playmaking after? Wendell Carter Jr.: I think when I was coming into the league Bam [Adebayo] was one of those guys that I looked up to because of his playmaking ability especially this year he’s showing that he can also score in bunches too.

Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson: Both you and Angel are constantly under the spotlight—especially with her move to Atlanta being the talk of the WNBA right now. How do you two support each other while dealing with the heavy expectations of professional basketball? Wendell Carter Jr.: We’re both competitors so before games after games we tell each other what we should do night in and night out and not to pay too much attention to the outside noise we call it the white noise. Try not to pay too much attention to it and just understand that we’ve already built our foundation in both our leagues and continue to build on it.

The Magic are looking to escape the first round for the first time since the 2009-10 season. Wendell Carter said the biggest key for Orlando is to remain healthy, as they’ve rarely had their starting five intact this season. “I would say that, and the fact that from the first guy to the 15th guy on and off the court. we all rock with each other,” said Carter in a one-on-one interview with R.org. “It’s rare that you see that in this league. But from what I’ve seen and what I’ve been around with this team, every guy rocks with one another. That’s very important. That means we go out there on that battlefield and will do whatever for the next person. I think with the talent and the togetherness, that’s why I feel like we can beat anybody in this league.”

Jason Beede: The #Magic list Wendell Carter Jr. (nasal fracture) and Jamal Cain (left calf contusion) as Questionable for Wednesday’s game vs. Wolves. Jett Howard (left ankle sprain) and Jonathan Isaac (left knee sprain) remain OUT. Franz Wagner is expectedly back off the injury report.

Jason Beede: FINAL: #Magic 115, Mavs 114 Orlando survives in the closing moments and Dallas can't get a shot off. Tristan da Silva scores 19 off the bench, Jalen Suggs adds 17, Paolo Banchero with 16 and Wendell Carter Jr. with the winner and 15 points.

“He reminds me of a lot of older guys in this league,” Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. (15 points, 14 rebounds) said about Bane. “Guys who have established themselves and have a mindset of, he’s going to play his game no matter what. His process is going to remain the same. Early on (in the season), he was struggling a little bit but one thing about it, he stuck to what he knows he’s good at. “And now we’re seeing the benefits of what trading for a guy like that does,” Carter added. “His continued elevation just shows he’s one of the best in this league in terms of his position, shooting the 3-ball, getting downhill, facilitating, playmaking … He’s exactly what we need.”

Jason Beede: FINAL: #Magic 130, Raptors 120 Orlando looked dead in the water trailing by 14 points before it outscored Toronto 44-21 in the fourth quarter. Desmond Bane (32 points), Anthony Black (25), Wendell Carter Jr. (23) and Paolo Banchero (20) combine for 100 on ESPN.
