Pacers defeat Hawks 129-124 behind 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting from Pascal Siakam, 26 points and 10 assists from Andrew Nembhard, 23 points from Aaron Nesmith. Jalen Johnson continues All-Star push, goes off for 33 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals.

Brad Rowland: Hawks injury report for Saturday at Pacers: Jalen Johnson (left calf tightness) is questionable. Zaccharie Risacher (left knee, bone contusion) is questionable. Onyeka Okongwu (dental fracture) is out. Kristaps Porzingis (left Achilles tendinitis) is out.

Brad Rowland: Update: Jalen Johnson is OUT tonight.

The early indications are that Atlanta has not joined the Giannis chase and does not intend to. The Hawks do have control of Milwaukee's picks in the next two drafts but have shown no interest to date in surrendering control of them. The Hawks are likewise said to be unwilling to surrender Jalen Johnson in a theoretical Antetokounmpo deal ... even though Johnson's agent Rich Paul said in one of his recent podcasts that the Milwaukee native is precisely whom the Bucks should target.

Sources say that Atlanta has some level of reservation regarding the skillsets of Antetokounmpo and Johnson and how they would match after trading away Young in early January to make the 24-year-old their new centerpiece.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 21 points, Jalen Johnson had 19 points and 14 rebounds and the Atlanta Hawks beat the Boston Celtics 117-106 on Wednesday night to avenge a lopsided home loss. Onyeka Okongwu added 17 points, Dyson Daniels had 15 and Corey Kispert 13 to help the Hawks win their fourth straight.

NBA Communications: Other nominees… West: Saddiq Bey (NOP), Kevin Durant (HOU), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC), James Harden (LAC) and Naji Marshall (DAL) East: Bam Adebayo and Norman Powell (MIA), Jalen Duren (DET), Jalen Johnson (ATL), Donovan Mitchell (CLE) and Coby White (CHI)

Brice Lewis: Hawks beat the Suns tonight 110-103 and sweep the season series. The Hawks won the 4th quarter 26-12 and were able to overcome 21 turnovers. Onyeka Okongwu led all scorers with 25 points and Jalen Johnson had a near triple double and almost a 20-20 game. Hawks getting some much needed wins right now.

Roland Beech: Post Trae Young, what are the Hawks? Over a 6-game sample of recent games... • 7 players with 85+ RHP is decent • Inconsistent Playing Hard/Physicality • Solid core: Johnson / Daniels / Alexander-Walker players to believe in, but still 'works in progress'

The Hawks accomplished a significant goal of theirs by moving Young and his $50 million player option for next season. However, team sources say they still have ambitions for the season. Atlanta has $42 million in expiring contracts with Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kennard, and a $13 million trade exception with four tradable first-round picks -- although inquiring teams can forget about getting the unprotected swap rights the Hawks have with the Pelicans or Bucks in June's draft. Their books are relatively clean, too, as only Jalen Johnson will earn more than $25 million next season.

Trae Young offered farewell words and best wishes to his former Atlanta Hawks teammates in the locker room after they beat the New Orleans Pelicans without him on Jan. 7. This speech came after the news that the four-time NBA All-Star was to be traded to the Washington Wizards. The reality of that news also hit Jalen Johnson, the Hawks’ star forward who suddenly became the face of the franchise. “The first thing I thought was just kind of shock it happened,” Johnson told Andscape. “But then I immediately switched gears and understood it’s time. It’s time to take it up even another notch. With him being out, it allowed me to do more things and stuff like that. But once the news came out it was like, ‘It’s go-time now. It’s here. It’s time to go get it.’”

Johnson, 24, respected Young’s tenure with the Hawks and said he learned about humility and impacting locals from him. “He’s been there for eight years,” Johnson said about Young. “And all the stuff he’s done for the city and just being a Hawk, there was just a lot of emotions at that time. And I think it was only me, and O [Onyeka Okongwu] that have been around since he’s been here. His speech was good, but like he said, ‘It’s a business at the end of the day.’ And as long as he’s happy, we’re happy.’ ”

Johnson will learn later this month if he is voted in as a first-time Eastern Conference All-Star reserve by the coaches. He believes he has proven his All-Star worth with his all-around game, but seeing it become reality is also believing for him. “I’ve shown the world my game,” Johnson said. “I am more than just getting out in transition and dunking. That is how people kind of saw me my first couple years. I’m more than just athleticism. People are starting to see what I can really do, and people are respecting my game. My peers are respecting me after the games. And that’s just a sign of respect when you got your peers complimenting you and how far you’ve came. Them just acknowledging my growth and seeing me from year two to now, seeing how much better I got, it’s cool. … “I feel like it’s kind of hard to think about [All-Star] now. Last [season] I was right there and then the injury [shoulder] happened. I feel it was right there, but it’s kind of hard to just put my mind on it now. Last [season], s— happens. I ain’t taking nothing for granted. I feel like I’ve made a good [All-Star] case. I am trying to prove myself every game. I don’t walk out there and think I’m better than no one. I just go out there and play confident and let my game speak for itself.”
