The Houston Rockets today announced they have signed free agent forward Julian Phillips. Phillips (6-8, 201) was the 35th overall pick by Boston in the 2023 NBA Draft following his freshman season at Tennessee. He spent his first two and a half seasons with Chicago before being acquired by Minnesota via trade on Feb. 5, 2026.

Jon Krawczynski: The Timberwolves are declining the team option on Julian Phillips, a source told @TheAthletic.

Michael Scotto: The Minnesota Timberwolves will decline their $2.41 million team option on Julian Phillips and will not extend him a qualifying offer, thus making him an unrestricted free agent, league sources told @hoopshype.

According to a league source, Detroit did pursue Dosunmu, but the asking price was just too high. The Minnesota Timberwolves traded Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller and four second-round picks in exchange for Dosunmu and Julian Phillips. The Bulls wanted young talent and picks, which the Pistons weren’t willing to offload for Dosunmu, who is now entering free agency.
