Sactown Sports 1140: “[Zach LaVine and his agency] are not leaving that money on the table. So, he's not opting out." @sam_amick joined @CarmichaelDave & @JasonRoss1140 to share his intel on Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine's pending $49 million player option:

Q. I think I had created a situation in my mind where hey, if somebody wants to give him $60 million over two years, maybe he opts out, but if somebody was trying to give me $50 million to opt in, I think it'd be hard for me… Michael Scotto: It would have to be more than that. It would have to be more than that. Like it would have to be something of like a I don't even know if it's a three-year deal for $100 million, something like that. If you're Zach LaVine, I don't see that out there right now. I think ultimately he's opting in and barring anything of that caliber, that was kind of the expectation I was told and a lot of people around the league have surmised that as well. So I do think ultimately he's opting in.

James Ham: The intent of the Kings’ front office is to move off of one or more of their large contracts. And as a player, I think Domantas Sabonis, out of all of their larger contract players, still has the most value. He's got more value than Zach LaVine. He's got more value than DeMar DeRozan. He's got more value than Malik Monk. He's got more, I'm just going to throw his name in there, too, because De'Andre Hunter has a one-year like 25-26 million-dollar deal. He's got more value than any of those guys.

James Ham: Scott Perry is trying to send out players and salary. He's trying to improve the team while making these adjustments, which is its own tall task, and there's a possibility that Sabonis and DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine and Malik Monk are all gone before the dust settles, right? Before we get through all of free agency, or before we get to full-fledged Summer League, or we get to the end of July. All of those players could be gone.

A Newport Coast estate linked to Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine is on the market for just under $40 million. The 11,200-square-foot Mediterranean-style residence has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Although a private trust managed by his business manager bought it for $34 million in April 2023, the two-time NBA All-Star has occasionally shared glimpses of the guard-gated Pelican Crest property on social media.

Michael Scotto: Julius Randle on Ayo Dosunmu: “I didn't know he was that damn good. I ain't gonna lie to you. When I was in the East and he was in Chicago, that were those DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine teams, so I don’t know if the opportunity was there as much, but damn, I'm glad we got him.”

New Balance executive Chris Davis: If you look at the NBA, I’m pretty sure we have seven or eight All-Stars, starting with Kawhi (Leonard) to Zach LaVine, Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Dejounte Murray, Darius Garland, and then enter Cooper Flagg. In this year’s draft, we have Caleb Wilson, who is a star freshman from North Carolina and will be a top-five pick. And then as a senior in high school, we have Jordan Smith Jr., who’s the top recruit in the country going into the NCAA; he’s committed to Arkansas. So that’s what the basketball landscape looks like.

Zach, you do have a little bit of control over your destiny this summer. Is this a place you want to stay at? Is this somewhere you can see yourself long-term, or is this one of those situations where you’ve got to play it year by year? Zach LaVine: I have a lot of control. I’ll go back and talk to my representatives and figure out what the best course of action is. I think that goes along with what he asked — what’s most important to you right now, and what makes sense. Obviously, having a player option is a good thing for me and my camp. So we’ll go back and look at everything, look at all the scenarios, watch the playoffs, and see what happens.

Donovan was asked about Dosunmu’s comments – which he said didn’t see – and in a roundabout way said he was not anti-midrange, he was anti-midrange for players that weren’t efficient at it, which is basically the entire roster that his front office has given him. “To me, I think we let the guys play freely,” Donovan said. “I think when you look at some of the analytical stuff and I was on board with probably this a couple years ago; Zach (LaVine) played in the midrange, Vooch (Nikola Vucevic) played in the midrange, and obviously DeMar played in the midrange. And as great as all those guys are offensively we didn’t necessarily have an elite offense. Their shot making, all three of those guys, had the best shot making of their careers while they were together at different points and time. So I’m not opposed to the midrange. “I think you have to play to players’ strengths, so I’m a believer in the first part of the shot clock you certainly want to try and get something downhill to the basket, and generally what happens is when the ball gets into the paint and the ball gets sprayed out that’s when the threes are going to go up. Most of the time the midrange stuff is coming off iso situations. It’s late clock, a guy is stuck with the ball, and at that time you’ve got to manufacture and generate shots.”

Yossi Gozlan: Kings now down to 12 active players including two-ways. They have an open standard & two-way roster spot to fill for help. They'll also qualify for a hardship extension soon with Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis, & De'Andre Hunter out for the year + Dylan Cardwell out for a while.
