Noah Levick: Sixers announce that they'll hold their annual Blue X White scrimmage on Oct. 20 at 12 p.m. at Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington. Tickets available to season ticket holders at 9 a.m. tomorrow “via a special link,” to partial plan holders at 11 a.m., to general public at 1 p.m.
The 76ers’ Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Del., was the only open gym in town and became a refuge for athletes. Basketball coach and trainer Tony Paris organizes the workouts and has been running summer hoops for Philly and South Jersey’s best for more than 16 years. The who’s who of local pros from the NBA and overseas showed up to the Fieldhouse. It was their only option. Villanova alums Jalen Brunson and Omari Spellman, Philly natives Brad Wanamaker, Amile Jefferson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, plus South Jersey players like Jason Thompson and Louis King, just to name a few. Most of the private sessions have about 15-20 players — enough to make up three teams and alternate without too much time on the sidelines.
If New Jersey and Pennsylvania's orders keep the Sixers off the court for too long, though, Brand did mention that the team won't rule out Delaware as an option. "We have a great facility right in Wilmington, Delaware, where our G League team, the Blue Coats, play in and practice in," Brand mentioned. "I have backup plans ready and available for our guys when they need it if it's deemed safe if they want it."
@Sixers center @IamAmirJohnson, a 14-year @NBA vet, volunteered to play for the @Blue_Coats on Friday, drove to Wilmington, Delaware, and wore the only jersey available (No. 99). Why? "Just to be ready when the team needs me... I just love to play basketball, man."

Johnson will not only be the team’s first head coach under the new brand identity, but will also be at the helm for the opening of the all-new 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington. In March, the 76ers introduced “Blue Coats” as the team’s new NBA G League brand identity. The moniker was inspired by the 1st Delaware Regiment soldiers who were known for their signature blue combat uniforms and legendary courage during the American Revolution. “Connor has been a staple of the 76ers’ coaching staff for the past four NBA seasons, taking on a key role in our player development efforts, while helping drive our culture forward,” Brand said. “Player development, work ethic and culture are the core principles of our program. We know that Connor will strengthen the continuity between the 76ers and Blue Coats and we are excited to have one of the brightest young basketball minds at the helm as we enter a historic first season in Wilmington.”
Villanova redshirt sophomore guard Donte DiVincenzo (Wilmington, Del.) will enter his name into the 2018 National Basketball Association Draft process but won’t hire an agent, it was announced today. In his second full season as a Wildcats guard, DiVincenzo enjoyed a breakout 2017-18 campaign, earning BIG EAST Sixth Man of the Year and NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors. He averaged 13.4 points and 4.8 rebounds over the course of the campaign and moved into the starting lineup for eight games during Phil Booth’s absence in January and February (broken bone in left hand).
The Blue Coats’ primary logo was designed to show Caesar Rodney's horseback ride of 1776, which he took from Wilmington to Philadelphia to vote for independence. “This new identity serves as a strong extension of the Philadelphia 76ers brand and represents Delaware’s important role in our nation’s history," Sixers president of business operations Chris Heck said.
The 76ers are building a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose sports and youth training complex in Wilmington. Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which oversees the Sixers organization, and The Buccini/Pollin Group announced Wednesday morning their partnership to create 76ers Fieldhouse on 8.9 acres of land off U.S. Route 13 and Garasches Lane. BPG is a private real estate acquisition, development and management company based in Wilmington.
