It’s the first time the Hornets will hold camp away from the Novant Health Training Center since 2018, when they spent four days on the other end of Tobacco Road at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
Kirschner said Smith was flexible in allowing Julian to tinker with the colors to give the school the right look on television. Julian sent samples to Jordan in Chicago and to Smith in Chapel Hill, N.C., which were discussed on the phone amongst the trio. “Michael asked me what I liked the best. I said, ‘I like them all or I wouldn’t have submitted them,'” Julian said. “But I think the argyle has got the best legs. I think it’ll go anywhere. It’s different than anybody else in college sports, so it’s differentiating. It’s a quick visual that you see, and you know exactly who the team is.”
When the five-star prospect took a visit to Chapel Hill, he wasn’t greeted with the warmest of welcomes from on notable Tar Heels star. “So I go on the visit, Ty Lawson and them are there. Tyler Hansbrough’s got his own section … I’m the recruit, I walk up and say, ‘What’s up.’ He said, ‘I don’t talk to recruits.’ I was like, ‘F—k you, I ain’t coming here.’ That f—d it up right there.”

Danny Green shares a similar background with his former head coach's Asheville upbringing. Both needed assistance in order to have the opportunity to attend college. And both had a life-changing experience in Chapel Hill. That's why Green made the decision to donate $1 million to endow a basketball scholarship for the Tar Heels.
If you're still feeling nostalgic about Michael Jordan while watching "The Last Dance" (Episodes 9 and 10 begin at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN), there's a new hotel you might want to visit. Graduate Hotels is opening a Chapel Hill, North Carolina, location this fall, and it will feature a detailed reconstruction of Jordan's University of North Carolina dorm room, as featured in a 1983 Sports Illustrated photo shoot. "The room is an identical replica," said Graduate Hotels CEO Ben Weprin. "From the ceiling, to the brick wall, to the record player and records, the posters, the pennants -- every single piece in that room, we have it."
Rick Bonnell: The @Charlotte Hornets make it official they have signed guard Kobi Simmons. That brings the roster to an NBA maximum 20 for training camp without 2nd-round pick Jalen McDaniels. Doesn’t mean Hornets couldn’t open a spot for McDaniels, but for now, he’s not in Chapel Hill for camp.
Walker hasn’t spoken at length about free-agency since late September, the day before Hornets training camp began in Chapel Hill. That day, Walker said he intended to re-sign with the Hornets. (Under salary-cap rules, there is no practical way for the Hornets to sign Walker to a new market-value contract until his current contract expires).
