Chris Grenham: Former Memphis and Kansas forward Dedric Lawson is planning to play for the Celtics at summer league, per sources. I'm told his brother, KJ Lawson, will also be on Boston's roster in Las Vegas.
However, they had to do something. For now, they’ll try Melo, but his non-guaranteed contract gives Portland the flexibility to try something else at the snap of a finger. If he doesn’t work they’ll try calling somebody up from the G League (some plausible names: Jarrod Uthoff, Marcus Derrickson, and Dedric Lawson), or turn to another veteran chilling on his couch (Dante Cunningham and Lance Thomas are waiting by their phones, among others), or work the angles for a low-stakes trade.
Keith Smith: The San Antonio Spurs have waived Dedric Lawson. The Spurs signed Galen Robinson Jr. and Kenny Williams to bring their roster back up to the offseason maximum of 20. The moves are designed around Affiliate Player rights for the Austin Spurs of the NBAGL.
Tom Orsborn: Spurs have waived undrafted rookie Dedric Lawson, a forward from Kansas. He appeared in three preseason games, averaging 1.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 12.3 minutes. The roster now stands at 18.
The San Antonio Spurs today announced their 2019-20 training camp roster. The current Spurs roster stands at 19 players and includes the additions of Daulton Hommes and Dedric Lawson.

Devon Dotson, Quentin Grimes and Dedric Lawson received full combine invitations and Silvio De Sousa was invited to the G League combine, which also will be held in Chicago May 12-14, during the three days leading up to the main event.
Lawson, a junior from Memphis who averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds while recording 22 double-doubles during his lone season with the Jayhawks, announced the move on Twitter, saying he had “big news” and following that up with the following statement. “First, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the talent and opportunities to play the game I love,” he began. “I would also like to thank Coach Self, KU Coaching Staff, Academic Advisors, and the best fans in the country from the University of Kansas for allowing me to recreate myself and display my talents. After prayer and discussion with my family, I will pursue my life’s dream by declaring for the NBA draft. I will begin my preparation for the NBA immediately. RockChalk JayHawk for Life!!”
