Chinese national team coach: 'Luka Doncic is not Usain Bolt'

When asked about Doncic's influence in Slovenia, Djordjevic emphasized that basketball is a team sport and not solely reliant on individual talent. "Basketball is not an individual sport," Djordjevic underlined. "Luka Doncic is not Usain Bolt, with all respect. Everyone needs the power of a team to achieve the results they deserve and are happiest with. None of us would win medals if we didn't have fantastic people by our side. These are primarily teammates and coaches. "Luka Doncic is a megastar, and he is becoming a world star," the 55-year-old continued. "He is still young and has immense talent. I congratulate him on everything he has achieved and wish him much success on his further journey. Luka is unique, but he will face new challenges and goals."

The new deal, negotiated by Innovate Sports Group, is expected to place Ayton among the league's top-3 highest paid athletic brand endorsers at the center position. While Puma has been finding its footing in the hoop space after a nearly two-decade hiatus from landing any NBA endorsers, Ayton has long had an affinity and familiarity with the company. "Growing up in the Bahamas, the first brand really that I wore was Puma. That's all we saw was Puma," he said. "A guy like Usain Bolt, who I looked up to as a star of the Caribbean and the face of the Caribbean when it comes to sports, that's the only thing that he was reppin'. Puma was everywhere."

Ayton shares a homeland connection to two of its biggest ambassadors, Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt and pop star Rihanna, after growing up in the Caribbean. "Puma is pretty popular in the Bahamas," said Ayton. "I've always seen the brand growing up. [Bolt] is one of the first people I saw with the brand. It's important to me that someone I identify with and admire as an athlete is with the same brand."

James Harden followed up a 40-point triple-double by …

James Harden followed up a 40-point triple-double by going coast to coast for a go-ahead layup with 2.4 seconds left that handed the Nuggets a 125-124 loss at the Toyota Center. The defeat trimmed the Nuggets’ lead for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference to a mere half-game over Portland. “I felt like Usain Bolt,” Harden said of his hero’s finish.

James collected 24 first-place votes, beating out a pair of Olympic legends: Michael Phelps (16) and Usain Bolt (9), the fastest men in water and on land who are not accustomed to finishing behind anyone. Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, the NL MVP who led his team to its first World Series title since 1908, tied for fourth with Golden State star guard Stephen Curry, last year’s winner. Cristiano Ronaldo, Von Miller and Andy Murray also received votes. James joined Michael Jordan as the only NBA players to win twice. Jordan won it three straight years from 1991-94.

“He was watching Usain Bolt videos on running techniques,” a grinning Mills said on Friday. “He is that diligent in terms of trying to understand every aspect of his body, every aspect of getting better and stronger. He’s a unique guy in that regard and it will allow him to become the best player he can be.”

When the NBA released its rosters for All-Star Weekend's Celebrity Game, one name stood out above all others: Usain Bolt, legendary Jamaican sprinter and six-time Olympic gold medalist. As Kelly Dwyer noted last Friday, Bolt loves to play basketball, even if he's pretty bad at it. In the Celeb Game, we could see one of the world's best athletes in an unfamiliar setting. Bolt was not particularly impressive in his East squad's 58-38 loss, but he did contribute the highlight of the night. In the final minute of the first quarter, the 6-5 Bolt streaked down the court and took a long-range pass. After collecting himself (read: committing and uncalled traveling violation), Bolt rose up and finished a two-handed slam. Check it out in the video above.

So did Usain Bolt show up at Tuesday night's opener at AmericanAirlines Arena because he's a big LeBron James fan? Not exactly. I came here because I'm a Boston Celtics fan," said Bolt, the legendary Jamaican sprinter who sat courtside for the game between the Celtics and Miami. "I'm a big K.G. (Kevin Garnett) fan." Nevertheless, Bolt said he's also a fan of James, the Heat forward. The two each have been gold medalists at the past two Olympics. "I really like his game," Bolt said of James, who scored 26 points in Miami's 120-107 win before leaving for good early in the fourth quarter with a leg cramps. "I've met him before. I like him because he's a dunker and I'm a dunker."
