But before practice started, reality set in. Coach Tuomas Iisalo gathered the team together and revealed that Jaren Jackson Jr., Jock Landale, John Konchar and Vince Williams Jr. were being traded to the Utah Jazz. "For me, it was just initial shock," forward GG Jackson told the Commercial Appeal on Feb. 4. "I didn't really know how to react. On the way to the plane, it kind of hit me a little bit."

"I'm not going to say I didn't expect it, and I'm going to say I was expecting it," Grizzlies forward GG Jackson said about the Morant news. "I kind of thought things would just mellow over and get back to him being on the floor with us. Right now, I really don't have no reaction. He still comes in the facility smiling with us, doesn't let any of the outside noise affect him."

Thankfully for Tuomas Iisalo's undermanned squad, Jackson delivered 18 points, nine rebounds, one assist, and one block while shooting an efficient 7-9 from the field over 30 minutes in Utah. The sudden return to the rotation and subsequent explosion against the Jazz painted a picture of a player staying ready. Aldama did not hold back in his assessment of Jackson's return. “(Jackson) did a great job,” Aldama began. “It's not easy not being with the team for a bit, going to the G-League for a bit. The fact that he was poised, let the game come to him, and played super hard was great. He was a big factor in the (win over the Jazz). I'm super happy for him, and it's good to see him progress.”

Damichael Cole: When asked if Olivier-Maxence Prosper or GG Jackson potentially could get an opportunity today, Tuomas Iisalo said the following: “As long as they are on the roster, which they are, there’s potential for them.”

The Grizzlies went from trailing by three to leading by nine at the end of that barrage from Jackson. They went on to win 141-125. Jackson finished with 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting. “You see the potential on nights like these when he puts it all together, and my feeling is these sequences are getting longer and longer within the game,” Iisalo said.
