Though the pecking order in Boston might seem interesting to outsiders, including several former players who have spoken about it recently, Williams does not put any stock in the conversation. “It’s the same dumb s–t they’ve been talking about since I was here,” Williams, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Celtics, told The Athletic. “So I think neither one of (Tatum or Brown) should pay any attention to it because they’re both phenomenal human beings, but also phenomenal players. And no matter what the media says, they’ve shown that they can play with one another and they add to one another’s games. And no matter who gets the attention, no matter who gets the praise, the ultimate goal is winning. “Both of those two deserve to be in the Celtics rafters one day. And by doing it together, they’ll be able to do it at a high level.”

How little attention have people paid since the Celtics drafted Tatum in 2017 and paired him with Brown on the wing? The Celtics have won more playoff games than any team since Tatum’s rookie season, and that isn’t solely because of their overwhelming talent. They have consistently gone on deep postseason runs with Tatum and Brown because they, and the players around them, have been willing to put the team first. “He’s an All-NBA player,” Williams said of Tatum, adding that the trickle-down effect should help Boston’s role players, too. “And adding an All-NBA player to this roster, as we all know, is going to take them to another level. He’s going to impact the game both on the offensive and defensive side of the basketball.”

The Charlotte Hornets frontcourt is getting a reinforcement. Grant Williams is probable to make his season debut on Saturday at the Chicago Bulls. Williams has missed the first part of the season while rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered in late November of 2024. The Hornets frontcourt can use the additional depth, as Miles Bridges is the only real power forward on the roster. In addition, rookie starting center Ryan Kalkbrenner and backup center Mason Plumlee have missed recent games due to injuries.
