The Hawks have 17 players under contract after adding Dort and Nembhard, so they must subtract two by the time the season starts. Nembhard fills a need for a third point guard and seems unlikely to be the odd man out. Guard Buddy Hield is still on the books for $9 million but does not appear to be in the team’s plans, while guard Devin Carter (acquired in a salary dump from the Sacramento Kings) and forward Mo Gueye (on a non-guaranteed deal but out three to four months after surgery for a broken foot) are other potential casualties. Another trade, of course, is always possible. Atlanta also still has Bird rights on Kuminga that could be used in a sign-and-trade.
Michael Scotto: The Atlanta Hawks have exercised their fourth-year, $2.41 million team option on Mouhamed Gueye for the 2026-27 season, league sources told @hoopshype. Gueye played in a career-high 77 games for Atlanta, averaging 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game last season.
Joel Lorenzi: Bulls had a few options here to make trade legal (cash, top-55 protected future pick, etc). They got Gueye on an end-of-season, non-guaranteed deal in April, and they get Claxton without digging into assets.

NBA Communications: Atlanta Hawks forward Mouhamed Gueye and Minnesota Timberwolves center-forward Naz Reid have each been fined $35,000 for their roles in an on- court altercation, it was announced today by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. With 11:52 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Timberwolves' 138-116 victory over the Hawks on Feb. 9 at Target Center, Gueye committed a defensive foul on Reid by pushing Reid from behind. Following that action, Reid approached Gueye, and both players subsequently grabbed each other's jerseys in an aggressive manner. Both players were assessed technical fouls and ejected from the game.

Obviously, I work on my shot every time I can, but I think it's just overall working on my game and just trying to be the best version of me.”
“Probably what I think I've improved the most is just being active with my hands, being a disruptor, more than just making threes,” Gueye said. “Just being able to affect the game with my defense, trying to mess the other teams' offense up.”
