Why should comic book enthusiasts get all the fun? The first ever Fanatics Festival — a massive event billed as “the Comic Con of sports” — will be held at the Javits Center this weekend, Aug. 16 to Aug. 18. Over three days, fans will be able to meet and get autographs from top athletes such as Peyton and Eli Manning, Kevin Durant and Derek Jeter, attend dozens of panels and buy tons of merch to cheer on their favorite teams. “I walked into Comic Con … and thought this thing is insane… there’s quarter of a million people dressed in costumes,” Michael Rubin, CEO of Fanatics, the $31 billion sports merchandise and collectible behemoth behind the event, told The Post.

Kuzma believes he's fully prepared to step into more of a leadership role. For one, he's got plenty of experience to pull from. "I’ve seen a lot of different things in the short amount of time I’ve been in the league. I’ve been on rebuilds, retools, fighting for eighth seeds, fighting for titles. Just understanding where each team was mentally and why, I can see it," he said. Kuzma has been around and received advice from legends like James, Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant dating back to his days in L.A. And this summer he added another luminary to that list: Derek Jeter. Kuzma has long followed Jeter's path as both are from Michigan. They were introduced by a mutual business partner this offseason.
Just imagine, Bulls owner/chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and Hall of Famer Michael Jordan sitting at a hotel smoking cigars and reminiscing about their historic time together in Chicago. Well, it happened just last week at Major League Baseball owners’ meeting in Orlando where Reinsdorf and Jordan stayed at the same hotel. “I would say we are friends,” Reinsdorf, 83, told USA TODAY Sports. “I don’t see him that often. I enjoy being with him. Just saw Michael the other night. We were staying at the same hotel. Me and Michael and (Miami Marlins owner Derek) Jeter were talking about the good ol’ days. We (Jordan and Reinsdorf) sat out there for a couple of hours just smoking cigars and talking about those days.”

Derek Jeter: ll I ever needed to know about Kobe Bryant was this: that throughout our friendship, the most meaningful conversations we had — they were always about family. Put aside one of the all-time great basketball careers for a second. Put aside his famous work ethic, the Mamba mentality, that incredible will to win. I’ll let everyone else tackle that. But when I think of Kobe, I really just end up thinking about those special few personal conversations that we were lucky enough to share together, each time one of us had a new baby daughter. I end up thinking about how, here was this guy who was beyond gifted as an athlete, who was obsessed with being a champion, who was known as an absolute assassin with a ball in his hands. And in the moments I got to spend with him? He didn’t really talk about any of that. He cared much more about being a husband to Vanessa and a dad to his girls. He loved his family — he was his family. That’s what was important.

The NBA champion Golden State Warriors are losing one of their top executives. Chief Marketing Officer Chip Bowers is joining baseball’s Miami Marlins as president of business operations, reporting to part-owner and Chief Executive Officer Derek Jeter, according to people familiar with the personnel move. The people requested anonymity because the move hasn’t been announced. It is Jeter’s second executive hire since taking the reins in September. Earlier this year he also added David Oxfeld from Jeter’s longtime agency, Excel Sports Management, where he worked on client sales and business development.
