Juwan Howard on Nic Claxton: He is more of a a student of the game. And what I mean by that is like when I give him information, he sits there, he analyzes it, thinks about it. And I love the input that he gives back. Because it's a collaboration and I always tell them like, hey, we doing this together. So, what are you thinking? What are your thoughts? When I say something, I can just see his brain is working. And I'm seeing so much growth in his game from last year to this year. And I know people always been talking about, you know, Michael Porter Jr., which he's playing great for us and All-Star level, but there are moments when Nic, he plays at All-Star level, too. And he can get there. And I said to him last summer, our goal, I'm in it, I'm in the trenches with you, my man. And not saying that like your success is going to be my success, but I'm saying basically, like anytime you have a bad game, I take ownership of that. Anytime you have a good game, that's your good game. That's because of you. And then when it comes to playing against some of the tougher opponents, I feel like he can be one of the best defenders in our league, and his goal is Defensive Player of the year, because of his athleticism as well as his ability to protect the rim.

Sarah Kustok: Talk to me about two of the bigs you work with now with Brooklyn Nets on a daily basis, who we've seen just absolutely flourish and having tremendous years: Day'Ron Sharpe, Nick Claxton. First, if we ask Day'Ron what one of the most important things you have taught him is, what do you think he said? Juwan Howard: That's a great question… Patience. Kustok: That's what he said! Howard: He did? Kustok: Yes, [laughter] he said patience. Howard: Really? Kustok: He said patience. He was talking about when he catches the ball, taking his time, embracing the contact, but he said patience.

Nic Claxton said it was “big” for Nolan Traore to be on the court down the stretch. “You can show him that he belongs here,’’ Claxton said. “I remember when I first started getting those clutch-time minutes. It is a good feeling and being able to impact the game.” Claxton added Traore “did a lot of good things for us: Getting downhill and getting in the paint, spraying it out, making some good plays… Going forward, we’re definitely going to need that level of play from him.” Thomas’ latest absence comes in what’s been a rough season, with his future with the Nets in doubt as the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaches. Ben Saraf will be available in Traore’s absence.

Nic Claxton suffered a finger injury in the Nets’ 130-126 double overtime loss to the Celtics on Friday night, and is slated to have imaging Saturday. Brooklyn’s center hurt his right pinkie, leaving the game before returning to finish with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks in 39 minutes. “It’s sore. I really don’t know. I’ve just got to get X-rays, MRIs. So I don’t know,” Claxton said. “It is sore though. It was just locking up, so I just put some tape on it. I’ll know more (Saturday) probably.”

Brian Lewis: Nic Claxton on if he goes to #Nets GM Sean Marks about trade rumors: "I've almost been traded before. Sean, he has an open-door policy. You can always go talk to him whenever you want; but that's for my agents to take care of. I'm just here as long as I'm here." #NBA

Underdog NBA: Nic Claxton (personal) ruled out Friday.
Haynes then listed three targets for the Warriors, including the Mavs' Daniel Gafford, the Nets' Nic Claxton, and the Blazers' Robert Williams. "Those are three names who are on the Golden State Warriors' list of targets, to try to bring in a rim-running, block-shot defender. I was told they are really serious and they are trying to do everything they can to try to get the team back to being of the caliber of a championship contending-type," added Haynes.

Evan Sidery: The Warriors, who will be in the market for a center upgrade during trade season, are expected to show interest in Nic Claxton. The Nets are once again open to moving Claxton, who is under contract through 2027-28. A swap of Jonathan Kuminga for Claxton would be on the table.

Nic Claxton (18 points, career-high 12 assists, 11 boards) notched his first-career triple-double. It’s the first by a Net since Ben Simmons on Jan. 17, 2023. “It felt amazing, so good. It was a good team win and everybody contributed. First triple-double in Boston,” Claxton said. His parents were present, including his father, Charles, who played for the Celtics.
