Underdog NBA: Saddiq Bey (hip) ruled out Friday.

The time spent recovering forced Saddiq Bey to re-engage with the game from the outside, studying impact beyond scoring and usage. “Watching the game, man, and just learning a lot of the intricate details in the game of where I could impact when I come back,” Bey said. “And then off the court, man, just real spiritually, like having to really humble myself in life in general and knowing that the game can be taken away from you so quick, man. So, I learned a lot through that process.”

Saddiq Bey: “I work on everything every game and every year. So I make sure that no matter what the team needs, I’m able to fulfill that role. So for me, when it's like whatever the team’s been needing, I’ve been trying to fulfill that.”

When Bey spoke about younger players being “thrown into the fire,” he was referring specifically to rookies Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears, both of whom have been asked to handle meaningful minutes and late-game situations early in their careers. “They’re doing a great job,” Bey said. “They’re getting thrown into the fire. They get a lot of playing time, a lot of end-of-game situations. So it’s them just learning on the fly. They’re picking it up well. They’re really coachable. So I’m just happy to see their development.”
