HoopsHype: Cam Spencer will never watch this video because he's not on social media. "If I wanted to keep a relationship with people, then I would just pick up the phone and call them. I feel like if something's that important, then it'll find me, and it usually does."

Kellan Olson: The Grizzlies without Morant, Coward, Edey, Clarke, Jerome, Pippen and Konchar just beat the Spurs the night before hosting the Suns. Great years for former Sun Jock Landale and Cam Spencer. Landale had 19-9. Spencer hit the game-winner with 21-7-8 and 0 turnovers.

Damichael Cole: Tuomas Iisalo on Cam Spencer: “I don’t think bad shots exist for him.”

Among the 174 NBA players who entered Thursday with at least 90 three-point attempts this season, Kel'el Ware’s three-point shooting percentage ranks third behind only Memphis Grizzlies guard Cam Spencer and Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis. And among the 23 centers around the NBA who have put up at least 70 threes this season, Ware ranks first. “I want to be open to the development of our young players,” Spoelstra said when asked about Ware’s impressive outside shooting. “Like I said in training camp, there is an element of unknown. But I want there to be some surprises. I want guys to improve. I want them to gain confidence as the season goes on. Young players, it doesn’t happen for every single one of them at the exact same time. And it doesn’t happen as linear growth. So I want to be open to that growth.

Law Murray: Ja Morant sprained his left ankle last night at Intuit Dome. He is questionable for tomorrow at Minnesota Brandon Clarke (knee) is questionable to make his season debut. Cam Spencer (personal) is out

Damichael Cole: Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo said he’s surprised people aren’t talking about Cam Spencer more. Spencer finished with 17 points and seven assists today. He’s been a spark for Memphis with the injuries at guard.

After Morant and Thompson had their exchange, Morant walked over to Grizzlies guard Cam Spencer during the team broadcast's postgame on-court interview and took a jab at Thompson, who had a season-high 22 points in the loss but missed a potential tying 3-pointer with 20.6 seconds remaining. "Tell him who the best shooter in the house was," Morant said to Spencer. "It wasn't bro from Golden State." Thompson described Morant's on-court comments as "nothing of intelligent depth," and then alluded to the off-court issues, suspensions and injuries that have marred Morant's career since he made consecutive All-Star appearances in 2022 and 2023.

Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. both had inefficient offensive nights. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Jaylen Wells didn't offer much help on the offensive end. Against a team like the Houston Rockets, that won't be enough. The Grizzlies fell behind early and lost 124-109 at FedExForum. Morant finished with 17 points on 6-for-19 shooting. Jackson scored nine points on 2-for-6 shooting. Cam Spencer led the Grizzlies (3-6) with 19 points.

What’s your reaction to your extension? Spencer: “I’m super excited. There’s no other organization that I’d rather compete with. I’m super grateful. It makes you think about all of the people that helped you get to this point. But I’m more motivated than ever. I told Zach [Kleiman] that I’m going to prove him right every single day. I’m going to get after it for him.”

In that game, what sparked the trash talk you had with KD after making a big 3? Spencer: “Two competitors going at it, man. It was a heated game. We had gone on a little bit of a run. There was a specific play that got the trash talking going. But I have nothing but respect for KD and all that he has accomplished. But in the moment, I’m a competitor and I’m trying to win. So I don’t really care who we’re playing against. I credit my teammates for finding me in the corner. But I was just happy that we won the game. That’s all I care about. I have nothing but respect for KD.”

Michael Scotto: Memphis Grizzlies guard Cam Spencer has now secured the most guaranteed money coming off a two-way contract, surpassing Grizzlies teammate Vince Williams, according to @hoopshype research.

Michael Scotto: The Memphis Grizzlies and Cam Spencer have agreed to a four-year, $10.5 million deal, including three fully guaranteed years worth $7.6 million and a fourth-year team option, league sources told @hoopshype. Mark Bartelstein and Ross Aroyo of @PrioritySports negotiated the deal.
